The read-a-thon come to a close last Thursday, November 15 th. Your child's final reading log should have been turned in on Friday, November 16. If you haven't turned in your logs it's not too late! Please turn them into your child's teacher by end of day tomorrow. At an assembly in the near future we will award $10 Barnes & Noble gift cards to the children who have read 1,000 minutes and a $50 card to the class in each grade that has read the most minutes. After three weeks, our children have logged over 140,000 minutes! We can't wait to see the grand total!

We also want to remind you that with the end of the read-a-thon, the job isn't done. Now is the time to be sure your child has sponsors for his or her reading, and to collect on the sponsors' pledges. Anyone can be a sponsor: grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, and family friends, among others. You can remind the sponsors that a portion of all read-a-thon money will go to the wonderful P.S .8 library, and all the money will be used for programs that benefit our children. Our suggested pledge is 3-5 cents/minute. And, of course, all children who read over 1,000 minutes will receive a $10. Barnes & Noble gift card, and the class in each grade that reads the most minutes will receive a $50. gift card to spend on the classroom library.
If your child does not have a sponsor but took part, please be sure his or her teacher knows this. We are arranging for sponsors for those children who are not able to bring in their own sponsors. If you would like to sponsor another child in addition to your own, you can leave a check marked "Read-a-thon" on both the check and the envelope to your child's teacher.
We'd like to ask for all pledge money no later than Friday, November 30. Please make all checks out to "PTA of PS 8." Thank you for your support in the P.S. 8 read-a-thon!
