Holiday Cheer at the PS8
Holiday Dance Performance

Bright and early Thursday morning, December 20th, PS8 first graders gathered in the auditorium to spread some holiday cheer in the form of interpretative dance! Parents, Pre-K, Kindergartners and Second Graders were all invited to attend.

The Tin Soldiers had a blast

Dance teacher Ms. D'Ambrosi asked each class to capture the season in a single New York City event and then worked with each class on compositions to kick off the winter break. The children danced in unison with small moments of improvisation (planned or otherwise) in a wonderful depiction of natural wonder and urban spectacle: snowy weather, ice skating in Rockefeller Center, and a night out at Radio City Music Hall or Lincoln Center.

Ms. Saffady's class were snowflakes. Ms. Levy and Mrs. Block's class glided across the stage skating in pairs. Mrs. Forrest's class did a jazzy number dressed in festive attire. (Mrs. D joined in this one which garnered a lot of hoots from the crowd!) And the grand finale, a fabulous rendition of the March of the Tin Soldiers from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite"! Mr. Levy broke the whole thing up with a single shot from an enormous paper cannon that leveled the solders like a row of dominoes. What a great way to end this year and bring in the next.

A big thanks goes out to Ms. D'Ambrosi and all the first graders. Happy Holidays Everyone! We'll see you in the New Year.
