Today the PTA launches a new logo. Here we explain why, and how this came about.
Many of you may have noticed that PTA Timely Notice email newsletters have no PS8 logo on them. Well, that's not a mistake. There's actually some logic behind it.

As you may recall from our March 6th Timely Notice, when we announced our new email platform, one of the things we wanted to do with this new software was find a way to help parents by enabling us all to sign up for emails online, and manage our information profiles and contact details directly from work or home or wherever, over the web.
However, when it comes to information gathering it's important to know that the PTA is not allowed to share parent contact information with the school administration, and vice-versa (because of privacy management rules and protocols).
For this reason, we didn't want the Timely Notice emails -- through which the PTA gathers parent information -- to feature the school logo. We thought this might confuse parents. It would be unfortunate if, for example, the school had no contact information for a parent because he or she thought Timely Notice contact info was automatically passed through to the school when the reality is that it is not.
For this reason, and because the PTA has not had its own logo, the emails have not featured one either.
So when the PTA Executive Board recently wrote the new PS8 PTA Guidebook, which more clearly defines the central mission and role of the PS8 PTA in the current board's view, it seemed like a great opportunity to combine events and create a new PTA logo at the same time.
Thanks for the design go to PS8 Dad Eric Janssen, who also designed the PS8 logo. (Just to reassure anyone who may be concerned about the cost involved, it was zero, thanks to Eric.)
As you can see, this logo also now appears on the PTA website, above. Because our website has content from both 'the PTA' and also 'the school' we decided to retain both logos on the website, rather than switch from one to the other. Timely Notice emails will feature the PTA logo only from now on.
That's it. We hope you all like it!
