All New York City public school students (grades pre-K-12) are invited to submit architectural photographs of their school for a citywide exhibit titled "PS Architecture: Through the Lens of a Student Photographer." There will be one winner for elementary, middle, and high school from each borough and one citywide grand prize winner from each school level.

The DOE will convene a panel of photographers, architects, and respected educators to serve as a jury. The final selected works will be featured in an exhibition at the Center for Architecture and in a slide show on the DOE Web site. The exhibition is scheduled to open this fall at the Center for Architecture. The students whose work is chosen for the exhibit will be asked to submit a personal statement about their work, which will be part of the exhibit and appear as part of the online slide show.

Submission Guidelines
Due Date: FRIDAY, June 13, 2008
Number of Entries: Each student may submit one photograph. There is no limit to the number of submissions from each school.
Eligibility: New York City public school students Pre-K - 12
Criteria: Photographs may be in black and white or color and submitted as a 1000 pixel by 1000 pixel 72dpi jpeg for judging purposes. Finalists will be asked to submit high resolution images for printing.
Theme: PS Architecture: Through the Lens of a Student Photographer This can be an exterior or interior view or architectural details of the student's school.
Instructions for Submission: New York City public school students and teachers can follow these steps to enter student artwork in the PS Architecture: Through the Lens of a Student Photographer competition.
Step 1: Review contest guidelines.
Step 2: Create photographs. It should not be merely a photograph of the front of the school building. We strongly suggest you visit the OHNY site http://www.ohny.org/programs/focus.cfm for examples of architectural photography.
Step 3: Collect permission slip from parents.
Step 4: Complete online Zoomerang registration form at http://www.ohny.org/programs/focus.cfm
Step 5: Save the photograph as a 1000 pixel by 1000 pixel 72dpi jpeg using the following file name format: DBN_Student Last Name. For example, if your DBN (District Borough Number) is 20X178, and your name (if you're the submitting student) is Joe Smith, the name of the file should be 20X178_Smith.
Step 6: Submit photograph via e-mail to ArchphotoContest@schools.nyc.gov
Return of work: Work selected and printed for exhibition will be given to the students in winter 2008.
