Book Fair Kickoff a Hit!

It was standing room only at the Court St. Barnes & Noble last Thursday, as dozens of PS 8 families and staff turned out for entertainment, reading, and shopping. Not only was the Barnes & Noble book fair kickoff event a rousing success, but we have learned the great news that for four days only through November 1, the PS 8 book fair will be continued online at www.barnesandnoble.com/mybookfair.

PS 8 dad Stephen Ringold, a Big Apple Circus clown, was the master of ceremonies, keeping the crowd in stitches and introducing the 4th and 5th graders, teachers, and staff who read works of poetry with a New York city theme. PS 8 parent coordinator Blake Amos performed as well. And taking advantage of the book fair's fundraising possibilities, a surge of shoppers picked out books for children, classrooms, and people on their holiday gift lists.

The book fair is not over yet! Barnes & Noble has graciously extended the book fair online only through midnight, November 1. From now through Sunday, please be sure to shop at www.barnesandnoble.com/mybookfair, and when you check out, enter our book fair voucher number: 10036903, so your sale will be included in the PS 8 total.

And the book fair heralds the beginning of the Readathon, our wonderful annual fundraiser, which is well under way. Please be sure to have your child bring in his or her reading log every Friday during the readathon, so the minutes can be counted towards the running total.

Happy reading to all!
