School Construction Gets Underway!
As you may have noticed, the long awaited construction of the PS8 addition has started. During the first phase, the courtyard and playground area are being prepared for the upcoming work. The playground is to be removed and the fencing will extend to the sidewalk.
This letter from Principal Phillips goes into further details, but here are the basics of what you need to know:
AM Drop off
- 3rd, 4th, 5th grades go to Poplar Street entrance where staff members will escort them upstairs. Arrivals prior to 8:40 should report to cafeteria for direction. Students escorted by parents may go directly to classrooms
- All other grades operate as usual
PM Pick Up
- 2nd, 3rd grade dismissal is now 2:45-2:50
- 4th, 5th grade dismissal is now 2:55-3:00
- 2nd grade now dismisses from Middagh
- 5th grade now dismisses from Poplar
- 3rd, 5th grade when dismissed will round the corner to the Hicks Street Entrance
- All other dismissal procedures remain the same
Recess will now take place in front of the building and in front of the trailers. Safety barriers have been established in rooms 101, 201, and 301. In addition, the teacher's lounge will be sealed off and no construction will take place in the building while the children are there.
For the spring, we expect Squibb park will be available to the school for use.
